Biography

Teppei Koike is an actor singer from Japan. He belongs to the production company Burning Productions and is a member of the singer-songwriter duo WaT with his partner, Eiji Wentz.

His family consists of his father, mother, and a younger brother. His given name, “Teppei” came from his father’s favorite manga, Ore wa Teppei. His cousin, Kyomoto Taiga, is a
member of Johnny’s Junior.

Eiji Wentz is Teppei’s partner and a good friend. Teppei calls Wentz “Ei-chan”. They often visit each others houses, watch movies and go out to eat together.

In 2001, he attended Osaka Furitsu Nagano High School and was the grand prize winner of the 14th Junon Super Boy Contest.

In 2002, it was spring then when he moves to Tokyo. He entered in Horikoshi High. This is the same school attended at the same time by the NEWS’ member Tomohisa Yamashita (YamaPi), D-BOYS’ Yu Shirota, Japanese actor and singer Toma Ikuta and KAT-TUN’s member Koki Tanaka. He met Eiji Wentz while working and they formed Wat. They started doing street lives. This is also the year when Teppei debuted as an actor in the drama Tentei Kazoku.

It was in 2004 when the duo WaT released debut indies C.D. Sotsugyou Time in June.

2005 came, his popularity increased when he played the role of Keita Takeda in the drama Gokusen 2. November of that year when they released their very 1st major single entitled Boku no Kimochi which reached the Oricon chart’s 2nd place. Before this wonderful year ends, he released his 1st photobook, First Letter from Teppei.

In 2006, he was presented with the Newcomer’s 43rd Golden Arrow Award for WaT. He was also presented with the 10th Gold Disc Award for “Best New Artist”. He played the role of Atsushi Otani in the movie Lovely Complex which is his 1st leading role. WaT became the official supporter of 2006’s International Volleyball Team. He was nominated for the “Best Supporting Actor” in the 49th Drama Academy Award for his performance as Ijyuuin in the drama Iryu. He released his 2nd photobook, Kiss me, Kiss me.

His first solo music project was announced on January 10 of the year 2007. Even the story of his life, all his hardships, leaving his hometown in order to pursue his dream to become a performer was put into a 52 pages one shot manga entitled Bokura no Ibasho. This manga was by Nakahara Aya who is also the author of the manga Lovely Complex. February 14, Valentine’s Day, he released his solo single Kimi ni Okuru Uta. June 27, when he released his solo album, Pieces.
